About the Country Program:

People in Need is seeking a candidate for the position of a IT Officer in the Latin American Program of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (HRD). The primary goal of People in Need's Centre for Human Rights and Democracy is to support independent individuals and groups in countries with repressive regimes who are the target of persecution, harassment, or arrests because of their opinions or activities, and to strengthen civil society.

The Latin American Program has been supporting civil society in several countries in the region.

The program focuses on:

• Capacity building for civil society organizations and providing support for their activities
• Direct aid to Human Rights Defenders
• International advocacy

For our Regional Office in San Jose, Costa Rica, People in Need (PIN) is seeking a IT Officer to join our local team, who will support the information technology and cybersecurity needs for our programs in various Latin American countries and will have a chance to work on important human rights projects in the region.

The main role is installing, setting up, follow up of the maintenance, carrying out the maintenance, minor repair of PIN’s IT and communication material, office equipment or those used by PIN during its activities in the Regional Program (RP). IT is also responsible for compliance of the RP with the Cybersecurity and IT policies, guidelines and protocols set by the IT department and continuous communication with respective colleagues within the department.

Other responsibilities are but not limited to:

• Checking that the allocated areas are appropriate for the correct use of computers and other equipment
• Checking that electrical installations conform with correct and efficient usage of IT equipment
• Trains and advises staff in using specific technologies e.g. VPN, password manager etc.
• Oversees the data backup processes

Requirements

• Be citizen, legal resident or in proved migration process with the right to work in San José, Costa Rica
• Experience in using ERP software and good IT skills on office support programs
• Good management and coordination skills
• Ability to work independently
• Disciplined, consistent and organized
• High attention to detail and precision
• University degree OR at least 3 years of relevant experience in the field
• Fluent written and spoken Spanish and English
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Effective time management
• Interest in human rights
